Inside the report

Measure your own program against the state of the market.

  • How deep adoption runs once pilots are separated from live programs.
  • The one obstacle that outweighs every other, in every segment and at every stage.
  • What organizations with live programs get back, and how they measure it.
  • How much budget is left for immersive once AI takes its share.

From the findings

Where outcomes get lost in translation.

Finding 01

Adoption has outrun its business case.

The organizations running immersive programs report concrete, quantifiable gains. The benchmark finds those gains are rarely captured in the terms budget-holders and security reviewers sign off on, which is what keeps working programs from scaling. The report shows where that translation breaks down.

Finding 03

Doubt about outcomes is highest before the first program.

Among organizations still weighing immersive, proving outcomes is the dominant concern. Among those already running programs, it drops well down the list. The benchmark shows what drives that shift, and what it implies for anyone still deciding.

Four more findings, and the analysis behind all six.

The ROI paradox, what buyers now value ahead of immersion itself, where demand for guidance concentrates, and the content bottleneck beneath the whole category.

Methodology

The early adopters and the field they're pulling forward.

This benchmark aggregates two independent surveys fielded at the end of 2025: one XR-native, one representing the broader training profession. Read together, they describe the field as a whole and reveal where the leading edge and the mainstream diverge.

Respondents concentrate in the roles that specify, evaluate, and champion training technology: instructional designers, operations and process-improvement leaders, XR and simulation designers, and directors of training.
